Panthers offer Ohio standout WR

Recently WR Brian Hartline 6-3, 175, 4.4 Glenoak High School, Canton got his first offer from one of his favorites Michigan State. Early Wednesday afternoon Hartline got his 2nd offer, this one from the University of Pittsburgh, another of Brian's favorites.

"Coach Junko called the school, and I was in the middle of changing classes. Coach Rose told me and I called him back. He said well we've noticed you got an offer and we'd like to extend an offer from the University of Pittsburgh. We'd really like to have you here Brian."

So were you excited to get the call?

"It really hasn't set in yet, it's kind of strange that you watch these teams on TV and wish you could play there. Then you reach the level where you can play there and they start offering you to play for school's that you watched, it's pretty overwhelming."

Any more offers on the horizon?

"Coach Rose thinks Michigan, West Virginia, and Akron are close to offering. Boston College and Penn State have visited me at school recently. Coach Dick Tressle from Ohio State visited and I got to have a nice conversation with him."

Do these schools have an advantage since they were the first to offer?

"With me it definitely does, whoever jumps in the boat first and offers, that makes an impact with me. All these schools have had the same amount of time to evaluate me and watch my tape. It really shows that those schools want me to come to their team and play for them."

So if a school waits until summer camp is that too late?

"I don't think summer camp is that far away that it would be a factor. I really think that the teams that offer before the season starts will have the best chance with me."

Will Michigan State and Pittsburgh be getting official visits this fall?

"They are definitely at or near the top, I want to check out the rosters and the school's and see how I will fit into each program.

How is track going for you?

"I'm running the 110 and 300 hurdles, the high jump, and a leg in the 4x400 relay."

Which has been your best event?

"I went to states in all 4 last year. Right now I'd say the 300 hurdles, I was ranked 7th in the country by dystat.com last week. So far I believe I have the fastest time in the state. My workouts are beginning to peak so I feel good right now."

What are you plans this spring and summer as far as football goes?

"I am signed up for the MSL/Insiders combine, that is the same week as regionals so we'll have to see. As far as camps go I'm planning on Ohio State 3-day and senior camp, and 1-day stops at Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue, Pittsburgh, and Penn State."

Brian Hartline had 40 receptions and 6 touchdowns in 2003 and was named 2nd Team All-Federal League, and Northeastern Inland All-District. In the classroom he sports a 3.9 GPA. At the recent Nike Combine at Ohio State he ran a 4.5 and had a 32" vertical.
