Some of the nation's elite after California WR

A few months back is when WR DeSean Jackson (5-11, 170, 4.4) of Polytechnic HS in Long Beach burst onto the recruiting seen with offers from California, Nebraska, and Arizona. Jackson has since added a few more offers from some very good teams.

USC, Michigan, and Pittsburgh have been the latest to offer DeSean. Jackson was in Pittsburgh this past weekend visiting a cousin and attending a wedding.

"My cousin lives out there. So Friday he took me to Pitt and I got a tour and got to meet the coaches and they offered me a scholarship," said Jackson.

How did you like Pittsburgh?

"I had a great time. They easily have the best facilities that I have seen. It's nice how the Steelers practice there also. You can see them and they can watch you."

Running backs coach Wayne Moses is recruiting DeSean. He actually was at Jackson's school last Monday to visit. Other schools that have stopped by include Florida State, Pittsburgh, California, USC, Arizona, and Washington State. Besides Pittsburgh, DeSean has visited USC, UCLA, and he tripped to California last season.

DeSean has attended a skills camp at USC and all day camp there as well. On May 22nd he will attend the Nike Combine at Stanford. In 2003, DeSean caught 43 passes for 850 yards and 11 touchdowns on his way to earning 1st team All-League and All-State underclassmen honors. He was also named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream team.

Jackson is currently playing baseball for Polytechnic. He's batting .380 and has stolen 20 bases with 4 games left to play. He has missed some games due to traveling and a minor shoulder injury.

What are the main factors that will lead to where you choose to continue your football career?

"Education. I will look at the percentage of graduates that the schools have. I want to be on a successful team. I want to play for a team that will give me the chance to make it to the pro's."

DeSean Jackson currently lists USC, California, Texas, Miami, Florida State, Pittsburgh, UCLA, and Arizona as his favorites. He has a 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and possesses a 34" vertical.
