Another BCS team offers D.C. standout

In a period of around a week, LB Rico McCoy (6-2, 212, 4.5) of St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. has secured offers from college football powerhouses Miami and Ohio State. Today, Rico answered a call on his cell phone. It was Brent Venables, co-defensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

"Coach Venables called me and said an offer is in the mail and I should receive it very soon," said McCoy.

Others who have offered include Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Boston College. After reading several reports that said Rico's co-favorites are Ohio State and Miami, PittInsider spoke to Rico asked him if it is a two-horse race.

"No, not at all. I like all the schools that have offered. Each school has different things to offer and I want to take my time, take all 5 of my official visits before I say who my favorites are."

There are some schools that stand out to McCoy including Maryland, Ohio State, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Boston College.

What specifically makes these schools stand out?

Maryland: "I would get the chance to play in front of the hometown crowd. They are part of the ACC, which is going to be one of the strongest conferences in the nation. I am also very impressed with LB coach Banks."

Ohio State: "They have a great football tradition at OSU."

Miami: "They have a great tradition of producing some of the best linebackers in the country."

Pittsburgh: "The coaching staff is great at Pitt, especially coach Harris. I felt really comfortable and at home when I went there."

Syracuse: "I think it would be nice to be able to play with my brother Reggie. I like coach Pasqualoni and coach White, and they have a very high graduation rate."

Oklahoma: "Great football tradition, they are always in the top of the polls."

North Carolina: "I have family in the area, so it's like being at home."

Boston College: "Very successful at graduating their players."

Rico has recently been invited by The Insiders Chris Pool to be a guest on Fox Sports countdown to signing day, where he will announce his college decision before a national television audience.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be on the show. Last year I was watching it, now I'll be on it."
