Penn State Nike Combine: Linebackers

Over the next few days, Pitt Insider will attempt to give you some information on players that we had the chance to watch and evaluate at Penn State. There were over 400 athletes in attendance, so naturally we didn't get to see them all. This is our summary of the linebackers that we did get a chance to watch (*Denotes Underclassmen).

Andre Mathis (6-2, 230, 4.6, Erie Cathedral Prep, PA) - I would rate Lamont Robinson and Andre as 1A and 1B as far as the LBs go at the Nike camp. Andre ran a 4.69 forty, 4.19 shuttle, 33.2" vertical, and did 25 reps on the bench. He stood out during the pass coverage drills covering ground like a DB, very active and athletic.

Ernest Williams (6-2, 245, 4.6, Monessen, PA) - Brute force and raw power. From watching Williams, I think when he gets to college and has some solid coaching the skies the limit. Big thick backer, who is fast and athletic. Nice lateral speed and reaction.

Mike Dell (6-2, 235, Lower Dauphin, PA) - Seems to have the ability, but lacks the size and strength may actually grow into a DE.

Lamont Robinson (6-2, 220, Salem, NJ) - Ran a 4.6 forty, 4.29 shuttle, 28" vertical, and managed 20 reps. Much like Mathis big athletic and fast linebacker. Nice drops into pass coverage, quick reaction time, alertness, has the agility of a DB.

*Greg Robinson (6-2, 210, Scotland School, PA) - Looks like the best LB in next year's class from the Keystone State. He more than held his own during the drills with some big time kids.

Brian Ostrowsky (6-3, 215, Bishop Hoban, PA) - Looked small in the upper body, needs to fill out more.

Vinny Stetsko (6-3, 225, South, NJ) - Nice sized LB has decent feet and fluid movement.

Kyle Maroney (6-3, 225, Central, NY) - Could be Stetsko's clone.

Andrew McMillen (6-1, 240, North Allegheny, PA) - Thick bodied prospect, always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Decent athleticism, I like him as a FB.

Joe Tuzze (5-11, 225, Lakeland, PA) - Stocky and a little short at only 5-11. He did do 38 reps on the bench and has the ability to play at a high level, if people look past his lack of ideal height.

Josh Miller (6-0, 220, Johnstown, PA) - The more I see of this kid the more I like him. He is a very athletic kid, on tape he destroys people. Once he runs a consistent 4.5-4.6 forty, a lot of schools will be on him.
