NJ QB hitting the camp circuit

Randolph (NJ) QB Drew Willy (6-4, 205, 4.7) of Randolph High School has one offer from Florida Atlantic. He is hitting the road starting on Tuesday and will finish up his camp tour at the beginning of July. Destinations include Notre Dame, Pittsburgh (June 18th-19th), Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers, Connecticut, Boston College, Syracuse, and Michigan State. Drew should be plenty busy with that schedule.

"If it weren't for AAU basketball, I'd be going to several more places. I'd love to check out North Carolina, but my schedule won't allow it," said Drew Willy.

What draws the NJ star to Pittsburgh?

"I like how coach Harris is in charge of the QB's. Coach Carmichael is recruiting me. I like him. He has been to my school to visit."

So far, Willy attended the Boston College and Rutgers spring games, a Virginia game against Wake Forest last season, a Connecticut game last season, and Pittsburgh's junior day this year. He also attended the Nike Combine at Penn State on May 15th. Willy was one of the more impressive QB's on hand.

Willy was a 1st team All- Iron Hills Conference and All- Morris County selection in 2003. He completed 99 passes out of 170 attempts for 1, 480 yards. He threw for 17 touchdowns against only 5 interceptions.

What are you strengths as a QB?

"My leadership and my arm strength. I love the pressure. I want the ball in my hands when the game is on the line."

Is there anything you feel you need to improve on?

"My footwork, I have been attending Parisi's speed school so it's getting better. I need to improve on reading defense, differences between cover-two and cover-three."

Drew is an outstanding student. He carries a 3.15 GPA and has scored 1000 on his SATs. As the starting PG for the Randolph High School basketball team, Drew averaged 18 PPG. He is currently playing AAU ball for the Morris County Bulls, a team that feature St. Benedict's standouts Frank Tchulsi and Ishmaila Traore.

Favorites are Notre Dame, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. His decision will be based on the following:

"The coaching staff and how comfortable I am around them. The team has to have a solid tradition. Academics are very important to me."

What are you planning on majoring in?

"Business or some type of finance."
