Pitt is coming off a 23-17 win over rival West Virginia and brings a 5-5 record into the game with UAB. UAB is 6-4 and hasn't played since a 43-21 win over Houston on November 17th. That gives them two weeks to prepare for the panthers and they also have a possible bowl berth on the line this Saturday too. UAB lost to Florida St. 29-7 earlier this season and anyone who watched the game saw UAB's outstanding defense chase Florida St's QB around all day. The Blazers beat a pretty good TCU team 38-17 and lost 3-0 to a pretty good Southern Mississippi team. UAB has one of the best defensive lines in the country and as many as 3 defensive lineman are expected to be drafted in the NFL. They all were stars at the NFL junior day last year. They also returned 10 starters on defense from the year before. On offense the Blazers are led by Jegil Dugger, a senior RB who is 203 for 797 yards and 6 TD's with a 3.9 yards per carry. They have another standout RB in Thomas Cox who rushed for 113 yards on 25 carries and 2 TD's against Houston also. UAB also has an experienced QB in senior Jeff Aaron, who is 77 of 148 for 828 yards and 4 TD's. Willie Quinnie is there top WR and he has 33 catches for 410 yards and 3 TD's. One thing to keep in mind is that UAB has 6 players who have at least 10 catches this season, and 14 players have at least one catch this year which is pretty amazing and tells you they can spread the ball around pretty good. Pitt will have to play a strong defensive game against UAB because it will be tough to score a lot of points on their defense. If Florida St's o-line filled with past high school all-Americans struggled against UAB's defensive line, you know our young o-line will have some trouble. Pitt fans need to show up in full force Saturday at Heinz Field and need to be loud and create a home field advantage! This game is extremely important As if we win, we will be assured of a bowl bid, which is huge for recruiting, and it also gives our young players another month of practice, which really helps, in developing talent for the future.
