Panthers Land Sixth Verbal Commit

The University Of Pittsburgh ‘s class of 2005 just got a little bigger today, as the Panthers have added their sixth verbal pledge. After a slow start, the Panther's efforts have picked up steam in the recent weeks with verbal commitments from CB Dominic Jones, CB Bryan Williams, and DL Marlon Terry. Early on the Panthers secured verbals from OT John Brown, and RB LaRod Stephens

Running Back Irvan Brown (6-0, 180, 4.56) Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square, NY has finally ended months of speculation and made his verbal commitment to the Panthers today.

"I called Coach Ambrosie, and he gave me Coach Freeman's cell number and I finally got in touch with him and told him I was ready to wear Blue and Gold in 2005" said Brown

What was Coach Freeman's reaction?

"He was very excited to have me on board."

Brown chose Pittsburgh over offers from Syracuse, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Northeastern. The 1st Team All-Central NY, and two-time All-Conference Selection ran for 1,437 yards on 177 carries, and scored 19 touchdowns as a junior. Brown ran for 598 yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore.

"The school single season rushing record is 1,570 yards and I'd like to break it," said Brown

Irvan has considered Pittsburgh as his favorite from the beginning of the recruiting process, what took Brown so long to make his decision public?

"I didn't want to jump to early, and I just felt like now was the right time to make my decision."

Was Pittsburgh it from the start or did you have to think about it at all?

"Pitt was it from day one, there was nobody else for me."

Brown was to commit earlier in the day, but was waiting to talk it over with Head Coach Burt Conklin.

"He just wanted to make sure I was ready and that I didn't decide to soon, he supports me and thinks it's a good fit for me."

Who all have you told, and has everyone been supportive?

"My mom, my coaches, my brother, and a few people at church. Everyone has been supportive but they've all known it was going to be Pittsburgh."

Did the rash of new verbals make you hurry the process along at all?

"It did in a way, but honestly I saw all those guy's committing and wanting to be part of the team and I knew I wasn't alone. I knew they weren't taking many backs so I decided to pull the trigger."

Are you glad the process is over with?

"I'm really relieved it's over now it's time to focus on my senior season."

Will you take any trips or visits?

"No, I am 100% Panther."

What kind of player can the University Of Pittsburgh fans expect to see in Irvan Brown?

"I am focused, motivated, and willing to do whatever it takes to win."

Has the coaching staff discussed what role they hope to have you in?

"They want me as a RB, they like my hands out of the backfield. They said they are bringing me in as an athlete."

Brown has a 3.3 GPA. He is a very good basketball player at Paul V. Moore and he recently attended basketball camp at the University Of Pittsburgh. During the spring Irvan also runs the 100, 200, and a leg on the 4x100 meter relay team at Paul V. Moore.
