Panthers offer Florida athlete

After several months of watching scholarships being passed out, more are surfacing in South Florida. The latest offer that we have learned about is Boynton Beach Community High School (FL) linebacker Baxter Grisby (6-1.5, 225, 4.5). Grisby is an intriguing prospect.

Last fall Baxter Grisby only played in 6 games, due to a strained groin. He made 40 tackles before being shifted to the offensive line.

"We didn't have very many players, so I had to make the move" said Grisby.

With a not so impressive statistical season, Baxter had to have a strong spring in order to impress college staffs.

"I went to the Miami Nike Combine, the D-1 camp, and the Rutgers University camp in South Florida. During our spring game against John Leonard, there were some college coaches there. Pittsburgh offered me and Rutgers was very impressed."

Besides Pittsburgh and Rutgers, Grisby has received interest from Miami, Bowling Green, West Virginia, Iowa, and Georgia.

"Pittsburgh offered me in May or early June. They called me in May and 1-2 weeks later they sent me the scholarship."

Grisby plays power forward on the Boynton Beach basketball team, averaging 12 RPG and 15-18 PPG. Basketball may take a backseat to football when it comes time for official visits.

"I'm not missing any football to take a visit. I take them during basketball season."

Any idea where you may visit?

"Pittsburgh for sure, and maybe West Virginia, Iowa, Georgia, and possibly Rutgers. Pittsburgh offered, so we'll see how the rest of it plays out."

During the spring, Baxter competes in the shot, discus, and high jump for the track team. Grisby carries a 3.5 GPA, and bench presses 340 pounds.
