D.C. standout will visit the Panthers

Most of the talk about this standout linebacker centers on Miami, Ohio State, and Michigan. Often left out of the mix are the Pittsburgh Panthers who have been around the entire time and are a strong player in the lottery to win over this (D.C) standout.

St. Johns College (D.C.) high school standout linebacker Rico McCoy (6-2, 215, 4.55) has set his first official visit (12/11) to the University of Pittsburgh.

"Pittsburgh has been one of those schools I have liked from the start. Coach Harris is a class act, and I think I would fit well in their defense," said McCoy

Rico and his parents attended the Blue-Chip junior day at Pittsburgh in April, and they have been impressed ever since.

According to Rico the visit even left an impression on his mom, which isn't easy.

"She doesn't say much, but she did after we left Pittsburgh. Her and my dad were impressed by Coach Harris and the facilities."

Besides Pittsburgh McCoy will likely set visits to Ohio State and Miami in the near future.

"I will probably visit Ohio State, Miami, and Michigan. I'm not sure about the 5th one yet, I may only take four."

With all of the talk about Miami, Michigan, and Ohio State does Pittsburgh have a shot at landing McCoy? "They are one of my favorites, every time I talk to them I like the program a little more. I wouldn't mind playing beside Clint Session and H.B. Blades." Pittsburgh running back coach Wayne Moses has been keeping in close contact with McCoy.

"I talk to coach Moses a good bit, I have also talked to linebacker coach Curtis Bray, and Walt Harris."

Two schools have contacted McCoy about taking in a St. Johns game in October.

"Miami and Pittsburgh are coming down in October."

McCoy recently received some very good news as he has learned that he will be selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on January 15th. The official announcement will be made on September 29th at St. Johns.

"That game has been my biggest goal since I watched it last year. I want a chance to play against the best and show them what Rico McCoy is all about."
