Pittsburgh Loses Out On Prime Prospect

The dream weekend of recruiting visits for the Pittsburgh basketball program was ruined a bit when 6-foot-9 center John Garcia of Brentwood High School in New York committed to the Seton Hall Pirates today.

John Garcia was supposed to visit the Panthers' campus this weekend with talented swingman Danny Green of St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, New York. Green will now make the trip alone without his friend Garcia, who had spoken about playing college basketball with Danny.

Garcia ended his recruiting process this afternoon. Garcia, who sat down with his parents and his high school coach, Anthony Jimenez, recently had an in home visit with Seton Hall head coach Louis Orr. Apparently, the in school/in home visit worked out well.

Garcia also considered Pittsburgh, Connecticut, St. John's, and Villanova. He had unofficially visited all five schools in his recruiting process. After his visit to Pittsburgh, Garcia stated that he was impressed with the coaching staff and the facilities. But it wasn't enough to keep the visit alive after Garcia met up with Orr in an in home visit.

Garcia is one of the most productive players on the high school level. He possesses a soft touch around the basket and is a solid rebounder and shot-blocking big man.
