Pitt basketball ranked #23 in the country!!!
The Panthers have finally broke into the top 25 rankings with a 77-74 upset win over then #11 Boston College. They are ranked #25 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll. The AP has them ranked #23 in the country. The Panthers 14-1 is its best start since the 1973-1974 Season when it lost its opener and the won 22 in a row! What made the upset win even better was that it was BC's first home loss in almost two years! BC standout and possibly the best player in the Big East Troy Bell was held without a point for the first 25 minutes of the game. Brandon Knight who had 20 points led Pitt. Zavackas added 17 points and Jaron Brown added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Brown is the most underrated Player on the team and is almost equally good at shooting, passing and rebounding, which is very rare. The Panthers play great defense and have led the nation in points allowed with 54.2 points per game and have held opposing teams to 20 points or less at the half 6 times! This team should not play to anything less than a sell out crowd the rest of the year at home.
