Legacy commits to Wannstedt

Dave Wannstedt hit the ground running, ever since being hired as the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh. The new Panther staff will seemingly have a heavy emphasis recruiting in Florida and Western Pennsylvania. Wannstedt has landed four Florida players, and over the weekend he landed his third WPIAL product.

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic tight end/defensive end John Pelusi, 6-4 and 240 pounds, made his long awaited commitment to Pittsburgh over the weekend.

"I met with Coach Wannstedt about a week ago, and I gave him my commitment over the weekend," Pelusi said.

As for the delay, Pelusi maintained the same stance he's taken all year.

"I always like Pittsburgh, myself and my dad thought it was important for me to visit some other schools," Pelusi said. I'm happy with Pitt, I think they will be at or near the top of the new Big East for a long time."

Pelusi earned several post-season accolades including 1st team Associated Press Class AAAA All-State, 1st team PA Football News Class AAAA All-State, 1st team All-Conference, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22, and Tribune-Review Terrific 25.

During his senior season, Pelusi caught 15 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. On defense Pelusi registered 72 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Pelusi is the second member of the PIAA Class AAAA and nationally ranked Pittsburgh Central Catholic team to verbally commit to the Panthers joining QB Shane Murray.

Pelusi chose the Panthers over offers from Northwestern, Boston College, Stanford, and Connecticut.
