Greyhound is a Panther

Shane Murray, Shane Brooks, John Pelusi, C.J. Davis, who's next?

That question was answered just a few hours ago as the Panthers landed yet another local prize. The No. 16 player in the state of Pennsylvania has given the Panthers his verbal commitment.

Monessen (Pa.) linebacker/fullback Ernest Williams, 6-2 and 240 pounds committed to the Panthers tonight. Williams was on campus for his official visit, but was forced to leave to attend a high school basketball game on Saturday.

"Our senior night was tonight, I missed that but I made it to the game," Williams said. "I just spoke to coach Junko on the phone and told him I wanted to commit, he called to see if I was coming back to campus. It's snowing real bad down here, so I probably won't make it back."

Williams is taking the SAT next Saturday, and is hopeful that he'll make the grade.

"I think I'll be ok, I should've taken it sooner but it didn't work out," Williams said.

Williams was selected as a 1st team Associated Press Class A All-State, 1st team PA Football News Class A All-State, and 1st team All-Conference.

Iowa, Indiana, Akron, and West Virginia as a fullback/linebacker have recruited the big and versatile athlete. Pittsburgh likes him at linebacker.

"They like my combination of size and speed," Williams said. "They need some bigger guys at LB, who can fly around and make plays."

Williams is listed at 235-240, but he is admittedly up to 265. He said that would be gone by the time he gets to Pittsburgh.

"I'm losing all that extra weight before I get there for sure," Williams said.

Williams is now the 23rd player to make a verbal commitment to Pittsburgh this year.
