Welcome new recruits Azzie Beagnyam and Jawan Walker

Azzie Beagnyam is a 6-1 225 linebacker prospect who runs a 4.55 40.  Azzie played Defensive End for Houston Clear Lake High School in Houston, TX.  He bench presses 305 pounds and squats 525. Azzie is known for his intensity, tenacity and nose for the football! He is projected to play middle linebacker at Pitt.  Azzie committed to Texas A&M in December, but since has had a change of heart.  He mentioned knowing the Pitt coaches better than Texas A&M's as the reason for selecting the Panthers. He was named district player of the year this past year after making 74 tackles, (43 solo), 5 sacks and 4 knockdowns. Recruiting guru Max Emfinger listed Azzie as one of the top 24 middle linebackers in the entire country! Azzie should be an impact player and only an injury would cause a redshirt. The Panthers are very thin at the Linebacker position and Azzie fills a huge need. Azzie selected the Panthers over Texas A&M, Colorado and TCU, and he also had offer's from Alabama, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

Jawan Walker is another huge pickup for the Panther's. He is a 5-11 195 RB and runs a 4.3 40! Jawan is from Erie Cathedral Prep, the same school as current Panthers Joe Dipre and Dale Williams. Jawan had an awesome year, that saw him run for a new Erie County rushing record with 2,430 yards and 33 TD's!!! Jawan also set the Career yards mark for Erie County with 4,864 yards and also had 72 career TD's in his 4 years as a starter!!! He also was selected 1st team All-State and also led his team in receiving with 13 catches for 203 yards and a touchdown. Recruiting guru Max Emfinger listed Jawan as one of the top 30 WR's in the entire country! Most likely will play RB at Pitt, but if he wanted to play WR, you get the feeling he could play as a True Freshmen. Walker is known for his blazing speed and fantastic cutting ability, as he led his team to the state championship his Junior year. Jawan was a big pickup for Pitt who really needed to increase their team speed and to land a game breaking type player. Iowa was said to be leading for his services the last 6 months, but Jawan selected the Panthers over Iowa and West Virginia.
