Panthers Look At New Yorker

On a high school roster that runs at least 10 deep, it can be kind of difficult to distinguish yourself. But on a St. Patrick's team whose cup runneth over with options, Ruben Guillandeaux, a 6-foot-4 1/2, 175 pound shooting guard, has carved out a nice niche for himself.

The wiry wing player is a legitimate threat from behind the arc, and can create space for his jumper. He can handle it some and shows some savvy. A strength program is a definite must for the junior.

A couple of high major programs have put out feelers for Guillandeaux.

"I've heard from Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Virginia, and DePaul," said Guillandeaux. "I like South Florida. I'd like to go away from home for college."

Guillandeaux scored 25 points for Starrett City in a 96-96 loss at the IS8 League playoffs in Queens on Saturday, showing a deft perimeter stroke.

Ruben Guillandeaux will suit up for the New York Panthers this summer. Next up for Gary Charles' team is the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in North Carolina on Memorial Day weekend.
