In-State CB Favors Panthers?

Pittsburgh (Pa.) cornerback Darrin Walls claims offers from Miami, Purdue and Virginia in the past month. He still favors Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida, Pittsburgh and West Virginia--all have offered.

"Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida are tied as my leaders right now," said Walls, from Woodland Hills High School.

"I've been talking a lot with coaches (Scot) Loeffler (quarterbacks) and (Ron) English (secondary) from Michigan. Mostly, we've been talking about the academics over there. One thing that I really like about them is their stable depth chart at my position. That's a good thing about them.

"I really like the great academics at Notre Dame. They didn't recruit any CBs last year and so far, I know that they've only offered two other guys, including myself, for the position. I know I could earn some early playing time if I went there.

"I've spoken with coach (John) Latina (offensive line) from Notre Dame and he's a real nice guy. I like how he tells me the truth about the school, and the straight facts about what's good about it. I was also there for their spring game," he said.

"I haven't spoken with the coaches at Florida lately, but I know that I like the weather and the stadium they play in. I 'd like to get out there for a visit sometime."

Walls has no plans to take in any camps or unofficial visits, save the ones he'll take when he and his team compete in several 7-on-7 passing camps this summer. He plans include competitions at Youngstown State (Ohio) or Notre Dame, and his team will definitely go to West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.

"I still want to make my decision after the season."
