Pitt Holding Steady for Pa. QB

Pennsylvania quarterback Pat Devlin (6-4, 200, 4.7) now denies that any school has an edge. He claims 25 total offers--including Miami, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Maryland, North Carolina State, Iowa, Louisville, Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse.

"I haven't been able to really narrow it all down yet to a top five," said Devlin, from East High School in Downingtown. "I think I should be able to narrow it down to five within the next month. By then, I'll really know what schools I'll want to get out there and visit.

"Some schools that I've got interest in right now are Miami, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Maryland and North Carolina State.

"Virginia is recruiting me the hardest right now. I mean they send me a lot of handwritten letters and I talk with them a lot, mostly with coach (Mike) Groh (quarterbacks). I've also been there a few times.

"Iowa is also recruiting me pretty hard right now. They also send me a lot of handwritten letters and they've come by my school too. I'm still looking into them, and I've also spoken with some of their coaches, but I can't remember their names," he said.

"This summer so far my plans are to go to Miami for a camp, and to Michigan (no offer) for an unofficial. I'll be in Miami on June 9. They were one of my early offers so I decided that I had to go there and check them out. With Michigan, I want to take an unofficial there because I want to see the campus, and I've developed a pretty good relationship with coach (Scot) Loeffler (quarterbacks), so I want to go and see them. I don't know the date of when I'll be out there.

"I'm still looking to be committed to a program before the start of the season so that I can stay really focused on the season ahead," said Devlin. "And even though I've got interest in some schools out there, I still think that I'm wide open to others out there as well."

Devlin has been to JR Days at Penn State, Virginia, Pittsburgh and Maryland.
