Panther Offer Another MD Standout

Earlier in the week we brought you two offers from Maryland. The Panthers offered Drew Gloster and Akeem Hebron of Good Counsel. On Thursday the Pittsburgh staff let another big time Maryland recruit know that an offer was on the way to his house.

Humility is an important lesson we learn in life, one athlete who is as humble as they come is Suitland (Md.) linebacker Navorro Bowman (6-1, 218, 4.7). One would think it would be hard for a teenager to stay on an even keel, especially one who has received the kind of scholarship offers Bowman has.

"I just like to be humble, I don't like talking about myself, I'm not that kind of person," Bowman said.

Bowman estimates that he currently holds in the neighborhood of 17-18 scholarships including his most recent offers from Ohio State, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Duke, and Oklahoma. Did any of those offers catch the standout by surprise?

"Ohio State surprised me, I have liked them for a long time," Bowman said. "It put a smile on my face. I feel that I am just blessed to be as athletic as I am, and to have these opportunities."

Bowman has another offer coming this week.

"Pittsburgh Head Coach (Dave) Wannstedt called, they said they enjoyed watching me at the Elite College Combine, and they liked what they saw and an offer was on the way," Bowman said. "It's a school I have some interest in."

Bowman is thankful for the opportunity to compete in an event like the Elite College Combine.

"It helped, because I have received a lot of my offers from my performance there," Bowman said.

Bowman has long been considered a lock to head to Maryland, but the standout line backer could be changing his tune.

"Maryland is the only school I have been to for more then an hour," Bowman said. "I am open to everybody; I just am having fun enjoying the recruiting process. I may try and schedule some visits this summer."

Bowman gained 1,230 yards and scored 22 touchdowns. On defense he tallied 165 tackles, 9 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries. He earned several accolades for his gridiron achievements including Defensive Player of the Year for the entire state of Maryland. He also garnered first-team All-Metro, All-Conference, and All-State honors.
