Pitt Basketball crushes WVU in final game at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse

The Panthers 92-65 win in front of a 7th consecutive sellout, gave the team the Big East West Division title. Pitt closed out Fitzgerald Fieldhouse's final season with the most number of wins ever at home, with a 15-1 record. The Panthers also tied the mark for season victories with 25, which was last achieved during the 1986-87 season.  Pitt's 13-3 record is also its most wins ever in the Big East conference. The Panthers 25-4 record has earned them the #7 ranking in the country in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll. Julius Page led the Panthers with a career high of 23 points, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Brandon Knight had a double-double with 15 points and 14 assists. Chevon Troutman also had another outstanding game with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Mark McCarroll also played a very good game and had a highlight reel slam-dunk that rivaled the dunk Page had against Georgetown last year. Jaron Brown also added 9 points and 3 rebounds and continued his all-around solid play. Pitt, who was picked 2nd to last in the conference and also didn't have any players on the 1st and 2nd team all-conference selections in the pre-season, have shocked everyone this year.  Ben Howland and Brandon Knight should win coach and player of the year in the conference, and Howland is also up for national coach of the year. Yuri Demetris scored the final basket ever at the Fieldhouse, where the Panthers have posted a 414-176 record since they began playing there in 1951.
