Nix Pulls The Trigger

Dave Wannstedt said from day one that his goal was to keep Western Pennsylvania players home, today he locked up his fourth Western Pennsylvania verbal for the Class of 2006. It was not a shocker as most anticipated it was only a matter of time. Today was the day for Nate Nix.

Thomas Jefferson (Pa.) Head Coach Bill Cherpak has just informed us that just a few moments ago, his standout linebacker Nate Nix (6-3,205,4.6) has committed to the University of Pittsburgh. Thomas Jefferson is currently participating in the annual 7-on-7 tournament at Pittsburgh.

"Nate just committed to Pittsburgh," Cherpak said. "He was waiting for his mom to come down here and she did, so after they talked about he told them he wanted to commit."

According to Cherpak, Nix's mom kind of wanted him to weigh his options, but he was never happy with any of the other visits he took to Michigan, Penn State, and others.

"His family loves it here now, they said it feels like home," Cherpak said.

Nate Nix

As a junior, Nix earned first team Associated Press Class AAA All-State, first team All-Big Seven Conference, first team Tribune-Review All-WPIAL Class AAA, first team Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-WPIAL Class AAA, Tribune-Review "Terrific 25", Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fabulous 22" South.

He registered 125 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries on defense. As a running back he carried 169 times for 868 yards, and four touchdowns.

Scout.com Report: Nix is a warrior; during a normal year he would be rated higher, but there is so much depth in Pennsylvania next season. Nix has outstanding lateral quickness, he is tremendous in pursuit. He is likely the best pass coverage LB in the state. Personally I would like to see him add 15-20 pounds, and he will be an outstanding college linebacker.
