Pitt Selected to Finish 2nd in Big East

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt football team was selected to finish second in the Big East Conference for the 2005 season by a poll of media representatives that cover the conference on a regular basis. The Big East Football Preseason Media Poll was released on Tuesday as part of the league's media day in Newport, R.I.

The Panthers received a total of 164 points in the preseason poll, trailing just Louisville (190). Following Pitt in the new eight-team conference are West Virginia (145), Syracuse (114), Connecticut (80), Rutgers (72), South Florida (59) and Cincinnati (40). In addition, the Panthers received one first-place vote while Louisville was chosen the top team by the rest of the voters.

The Panthers return 18 starters from last year's Fiesta Bowl team, which finished 8-4 and captured a share of the Big East championship. They open the 2005 season at Heinz Field with a highly anticipated encounter against Notre Dame on September 3, which will be nationally televised by ABC at 8 p.m.

Pitt football remains one of the best sports buys in the region. Season-ticket prices for the majority of seats range from $85 to $144. Seats in the amenity-filled club section are $240 (with commensurate Panther Club contribution). For more ticket information, call (800) 643-PITT.
