Panthers will host Florida WR

The Pittsburgh Panthers will face a crucial opening day contest against Notre Dame. The expectations are high for Coach Wannstedt and his team. The Panthers will be hosting eight official visitors over the weekend. The latest addition to the list is three-star prospect Richard Jackson.

Clermont (Fla.) wide receiver Richard Jackson (6-2, 195, 4.6) said he's set up official visits with Notre Dame (10/14), Miami (9/23) and Pittsburgh (9/2). All three programs have offered.

"Miami and Notre Dame are the two schools that are out in front for me right now over the other schools in my top five," said Jackson, from East Ridge High School.

"The other schools that round out that top list for me are Pittsburgh, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Clemson. All those schools have offered me too," he said.

"But it's been the coaches at both Miami and Notre Dame that have been recruiting me really hard lately. That's why I've set up official visits with them and Pittsburgh. I get text messages from coaches (Charlie) Weis, (Rob) Ianello (receivers/rec coord) and (Bill) Lewis (defensive backs) pretty much every day from Notre Dame. They and Miami also send me a lot of mail and have shown me that they're really interested in me," he said.

"I like how Notre Dame plays one of the toughest, if not the toughest, schedules in college football. Plus all of their games are on national television and they've got a winning tradition there," he said.

"Miami is close to home and they're always a contender for a national championship. They've also got a great attitude about their program. I'm really getting excited for all of these upcoming official visits.

"I'm also hoping to get out to Florida State for an official, but I've had some trouble trying to get in touch with the coaches there to set one up," he said.

East Ridge takes on South Sumter High School tomorrow (8/25) in their first game of the season.
