Visit almost turned into a commitment

Pittsburgh welcomed eight official vistors this weekend. Among them was a three-star defensive tackle from Florida. How did the standout enjoy his time in Oakland?

Pittsburgh's defensive line did not win over many of its fans or coaches, but it showed Davie (Fla.) Western defensive tackle Jared Martin (6-2, 280, 5.0) that he could play early.

"Even though they lost, I still loved it," Martin said. "I feel like I could make an immediate impact, they need defensive linemen badly."

Martin was very impressed by his initial visit to Pittsburgh.

"We came through the tunnel and you could see the city, and my jaw just dropped," he said. "When we were there for the game, it was awesome, I had chills up and down my spine."

Could a commitment be on the horizon?

"I wanted to commit, but I told my mom I would take at least one more visit before I decide," he said."

With Dexter Davidson and Ricky Gary also on the visit, one would assume that they tried to recruit their fellow "Sunshine State" native.

"Ricky was trying, man that kid can talk," laughed Martin. "I was around Dexter a lot and he was on me the whole time."

Martin admittedly has developed a bond with one of the Panthers staff members.

"I got to sit down and talk with Coach [Bob] Junko," he said. "He reminds me a lot of an old coach I used to have and I liked that."
