Big Diehl to visit Pitt

Pittsburgh will host a pair of offensive lineman this weekend. Jeff Otah from Valley Forge Military Academy, Pa., and Jason Diehl from Milford Academy, N.Y., both of whom could compete for playing time early on. We caught up with Diehl as he prepares for his visit to the "Steel City".

Last season as a senior at Troy High in Troy, N.Y., Jason Diehl managed to stay under the radar. The 6-foot-4, 290 pound, offensive lineman chose to attend Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y. with the hopes of gaining some exposure. During a summer All-Star game and the spring combine at Milford, Diehl has opened some eyes and earned a few offers along the way.

Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and Miami have all offered him full scholarships. Diehl has taken an official visit to Michigan State. He will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for the Panthers homecoming game against Syracuse. He has also scheduled a trip to Miami (12/7). The standout prep lineman has taken it personally that he has not received an offer from the Orange.

"I'm coming down to Pittsburgh this weekend and hopefully Pitt beats them," Diehl said.

Diehl has basically narrowed his search down to Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Miami. Right now there are a few things that Diehl likes about the Panthers.

"They need offensive linemen, and that is a definite plus," he said. "Coach Wannstedt is recruiting me himself; he seems like a good guy that really knows his stuff. It will be great to finally meet him."

Diehl is very matter of fact when he describes how much his time at Milford has helped his game.

"It helps when you get to practice against a guy like Marques Slocum everyday," he said. "I feel I have improved technique wise. I'm in a lot better shape. I feel I'm quicker, faster, and stronger. I dropped about 25-30 pounds since I've been here."

Milford plays against Dartmouth on Friday, and then Diehl will depart for Pittsburgh. Could the Panthers add to an already impressive class?

"If it blew me away I would think about for a few weeks then decide."
