Chappel still in play for Panthers?

The Pittsburgh Panthers search for a second corner has taken many twists and turns. Darrin Walls headed for South Bend, Aaron Berry has been all over the map. Jovani Chappel chose Purdue, but this is recruiting and anything can happen.

Jovani Chappel, the nation's No. 31 ranked cornerback according to Scout.com from Trotwood Madison High in Trotwood, Ohio, has decided to visit Pittsburgh after all. The 5-foot-8, 170 pound, three-star prospect was scheduled to visit Oakland prior to his verbal pledge to Purdue, but that trip was cancelled. Chappel will visit this weekend as the Panthers take on Connecticut.

"I'm just weighing my options, they've been recruiting me so I want to check them out,' Chappel said. "I'm still open minded."

Trotwood-Madison had a disappointing season by their standards (5-5), although Chappel had an outstanding senior season. On offense he produced more than 900 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, Chappel has recorded 91 tackles, 14 passes defended, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one touchdown.

Chappel, who will arrive in Pittsburgh on Thursday, is being recruited by Pittsburgh recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach Greg Gattuso.
