Pitt Is It For Martin

As Pennsylvania gets blanketed by the first big snow storm of the year, the Panthers still managed to receive yet another commitment. The Panthers added another key piece to a defense that has lacked the horses on the front line.

Scout.com has learned from sources close to his recruitment that Western high defensive tackle Jared Martin has committed to Pittsburgh this evening.

Martin, a 6-foot-2, 290 pound, standout from Davie, Fla., committed to the Panthers over Arizona State and Minnesota.

An in-home visit from Panthers defensive ends coach Charlie Partridge sealed the deal.

"Coach Partridge from Pitt came down here. It went great, my parent's really like him. He came prepared and had a very good presentation." The Panthers are trying to upgrade their defensive line which was a weak spot for them this season. Dave Wannstedt has already received commitments from defensive tackles Jason Pinkston, John Malecki, and Scott Corson.

As a junior, he had 69 tackles, six forced fumbles, three sacks, and one fumble recovery (returned 15 yards for a TD). Martin was chosen to the pre-season Super 11 team in Broward County.
