The Guru Grill

Hello fellow Panther fans, it's time for The Guru Grill. This is where Panther fans come to get the answers to their questions regarding University of Pittsburgh athletics and recruiting from Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Bob Lichtenfels. Our staff would like to thank you for your participation as we strive to make our site the number one source of information for Pittsburgh Panther athletics and high school recruiting.

Eman11: Everyone is talking about Otah like we have already landed him. Do these people know something I don't (silent verbal maybe?), or is it just purely speculation? Seems like an instant help player. If he has not committed yet, how do you feel Pitt's chances are with him?

GURU: He verbally committed to Pitt, enough said. If you'll recall from the Heinz Field Boards a few weeks back I posted on there that I had it on pretty good authority that Otah was a lock to come to Pitt. He had told a few of the players that it was a done deal.

Tbro34: In the Q&A, Zeise mentioned that Dorin Dickerson may be a halfback next year if Kevin Collier reneges. Do you think that this is a good possibility, considering many thought he outperformed LeSean McCoy in the recruiting combines?

GURU: I think if Dorin focused primarily on being a tailback he could be very similar to an Eddie George type back and would likely be very successful. I don't see Collier going anywhere else but Pitt right now. He loved his official visit to Pitt.

Jester03: Best place for wings in Pittsburgh?

GURU: Quaker Steak and Lube, Louisiana Lickers are hands down the best wings in the world. maybe I can get an endorsement deal now...LOL

Tbro34:  In your opinion, how much of the coaching problems this year come from the NFL to College adjustment?

GURU: I think you could blame a lot of it on that. Even Coach Wanndstedt admitted his team was not prepared physically and he vowed to make sure that does not happen again. There's a big difference between the speed of the game and the type of athletes that you are coaching, but coaching only goes so far, the bottom line is the players are the ones who play the game.

NJBob: Any insight on these three junior RBs from N. Jersey: Ray Van Peenen (Wayne Hills), Joe Martinek (Hopatcong), Jeremy Tucker (Pope John).

GURU: I have heard some good things about Van Peenan, but honestly Bob I don't get too wrapped up in juniors until after the All-American combine in January. I have enough on my plate to keep me busy until then.

Dandefense: What's the latest news on LB Vernon Smith and WR David Harvey?

GURU: I have not heard anything about either. Smith does not seem to be in the plans, I was told otherwise, but it doesn't look like its going to come to pass. As for Harvey, I'm sure we won't know until it happens whatever that may be.

NJBob: With 4 DTs in this class, any possibility one could be moved to the OL. I'm especially thinking of Pinkston or Corson.

GURU: Corson will likely be moved to the offensive line, with any lineman that is always a possibility.

Tbro34: Are we still recruiting Andrew Quarless?

GURU: Quarless is a Penn State lock in my opinion.

Sobeball: If the Panthers do lose some bad apples, how many scholarships would they use for this class. Would there be a cap or would it just come down to them taking as many kids as they think can help?

GURU: You always have to save some ships just in case of transfers. While they may lose some players to transfer there's always the possibility of them adding transfers as well.

Themasterghoul: Let's assume that Pitt is down to four scholarships to give. If the coaching staff had their pick, what four would they take?

GURU: Who would they pick and who would they get are vastly different. I'm sure they'd take the top four remaining on their board, but realistically McKenzie Mathews, Elijah Fields, Thaddeus Lewis, and I'll go with Audie Augustine or Geno Atkins as more realistic possibilities.

Tbro34: What's the reason that Jared Martin has been dropped to a two star?

GURU: Good question, my guess is it was by accident when the new rankings came out.

Mistersteelers: are there any verbals that you think might waiver on their commitment? and are there any surprise prospects that may sneak up on us?

GURU: Are there any surprise prospects? Would they be a surprise if we knew who they were? I'm sorry Mister, it was too easy I had to take it. I'm sure there may be one or two out there that we do not know about. As for wavering, honestly I don't think so right now.

"In Your Grill" Question of the Week:

Jester03: Would you share your thoughts on Elijah Fields?

GURU: as most of you know I have been high on fields for a long time. I think he's a very special athlete. As far as where do I think he is going to school, I honestly do not have a good read on him right now. Part of me thinks he's going to Pitt, but if so why wouldn't he just commit. Maybe he wants to see what Ohio State and Penn State have to offer
