Wallace Impresses Dixon, Pitt Staff

Pitt basketball commitment Austin Wallace had a visitor recently and he didn't disappoint his future college head coach.

Austin Wallace, the 6-8, 205-pound power forward out of LaSalle Academy, is headed to the University of Pittsburgh in the fall and is excited about the opportunity to go up against some of the best competition in the country in the Big East conference.

LaSalle played in the Big Apple Challenge on December 11th and Panthers Head Coach Jamie Dixon was at Baruch College to watch the action. Wallace put on a show for his future coach setting the Big Apple Challenge block record with 13 in his team's win against Monroe. But Coach Dixon did have some advice for the big man.

"He talked to me about not bouncing the ball so much when I'm in the post," Wallace said. "He told me to keep the ball high and also wanted me to shoot more from outside the paint."

Wallace is also hoping to add some muscle because "you'll get banged around in the Big East."

And while Coach Dixon doesn't guarantee anybody playing time, Wallace is optimistic he'll get an opportunity to prove what he can do on the court next season.

"He's started freshman before but there's a seven-footer (junior Aaron Gray) in front of me," Wallace said. "But if I work hard I'll get some minutes. Anything can happen if you just work hard."
