Martin and Augustine were recently named first-team All-Broward Country (6A-4A) by the Miami Herald. Audie visited the Panthers over the weekend. He registered 74 tackles and 5 sacks from his defensive end position.
"I'm not trying to beat my chest, but I believe I'm the best defensive tackle in the county and Audie is the best defensive end. I'm trying to get him to come to Pitt to play with me. It would help Pitt but it helps me as well. I want the players to line up with me."
Martin, nickname "J-Mart", chose Pitt over offers from Arizona State, Minnesota, Colorado, Colorado State, TCU and Central Florida. He was the 21st player to join the Panthers' football recruiting class of 2006. Panthers' assistant Charlie Partridge has been responsible for recruiting both players.
Martin, a mature and articulate young man, is a solid student with a 3.0 grade point average. He recently scored a 980 on his SATs. Jared has Herculean strength. He is capable of bench pressing 400 pounds and squatting over 500 pounds.
"Pitt needs help on the defensive line. Coach (Dave) Wannstedt is rebuilding every part of it. I believe that myself and Audie could make an impact."
