Mathews eliminates Michigan National Recruiting Analyst and SuperPrep Magazine publisher Allan Wallace recently spoke to four-star defensive end McKenzie Mathews from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, NY about his final college decision. The Pitt Panthers remain as one of his finalists.

Syracuse defensive end McKenzie Mathews (6-2, 240, 4.8) said Michigan (12/9) is out. He's narrowed his top choices to Pittsburgh (12/9), Boston College (1/20) and Syracuse (1/27). "I seriously can't tell you where I will go," said Mathews, from Christian Brothers Academy.

"Michigan wants me to move to outside linebacker and I really want to stay at defensive end. Also, it's in such a small town and I'm more of a big city guy. I really liked Michigan's coaching staff and the program, but it's just not possible for me there."

Mathews plans on announcing his decision on Signing Day after he sits down and talks with his parents. "I haven't made any decision yet between Pitt, BC and Syracuse but I promise to let SuperPrep be the first to know when I do, since you guys are national.

"I felt very comfortable at all three schools. They all have great coaching staffs and teams…as well as academics," Mathews said.

Mathews said he is carefully weighing all his options over the next couple of days before he makes his final decision. "I know I will get a lot of playing time at Syracuse and they're close to home, but I'm also thinking about the different playing styles and locations ….location is very important to me."

Mathews reports a 3.1 GPA and 1160 SAT.
