"Coach (Dave) Wannstedt is trying to rebuild their defensive line. It's obvious to me that they really want me. They like the way I rush the passer. Pitt was one of the first schools to recruit me and they stuck with me throughout the process."
Mathews is the fourth defensive end to join the Panthers stellar 2006 recruiting class. Justin Hargrove (Baldwin, PA), Greg Romeus (Coral Glades, FL) and Tyler Tkach (Slatington, PA) also signed with the Panthers.
