Barclay has visited Pitt on four different occasions and he attended the Scout.com All-American combine in Pittsburgh, PA. He has been a two-year starter at offensive tackle. Donny was responsible for protecting the blind side of 2006 Pitt quarterback recruit Kevan Smith.
"I didn't expect the offer. It was a great moment. Both coaches told me that they always liked me, but they were being careful this year because they only have 20 scholarships to give. Coach (Greg) Gattuso commented to them that I'm intense on my highlight film and I gave full effort on both sides of the ball. They want me to play with similar intensity if I come to Pitt."
Barclay is capable of bench pressing 310 pounds, squatting 450 pounds and running a 5.1 forty-yard dash. He is known for his excellent footwork and technique. North Carolina State was the first school to offer Donny a scholarship.
"Pitt wants me to play offensive tackle. I'm 6-foot-5 inches tall right now and around 285 pounds. I have room to grow and not lose a step."
Barclay is very good friends with Pitt commit Kevan Smith. When asked about Smith' reaction, he stated, "Kevan and I are good friends. He was very excited about the offer and he really wants me to commit. He's been riding me for a while about joining the Panthers."
"I really like Pitt and I'm excited about the offer. I plan on going to Pitt's one day camp for seniors and spending more time with Coach (Paul) Dunn. I'm not ready to make a decision but the Panthers are at the top of my list."
