Williams is a Panther

The same week that the Panthers could land a verbal from the No. 1 ranked player in the state, they have landed arguably one of the top three cornerbacks in the state in Jared Williams.

Irving Williams has just informed us that his talented son Jared Williams has just gave a verbal commitment to Pittsburgh literally minutes ago.

"We spoke to coach Gallagher at Perry and he said if we felt like the time was right go ahead," Irving Williams said. "We then called coach (Bob) Junko. he is going to have us get in contact with Dave Wannstedt.

What was the biggest deciding factor for Williams?

"My parents wanted me to stay close to home," Jared Williams said. "Pitt showed me love, they offered me early and stuck with me."

Georgia Tech, Iowa, NC State, UConn and Kentucky were all showing interest, but had not offered.

"They all wanted to see more film of me first," he said.

Perry QB Desmond Brentley played a vital role in offering advice to Williams.

"He said don't wait too long, like he did."

Williams is excited about the commitment and thinks he will add to the Pitt secondary.

"I am physical and I think I can add toughness to the secondary at Pitt,' Williams explained.

Williams should have no problem qualifying with a 3.3 GPA.
