PITT close to offering Offensive Lineman

University of Pittsburgh Offensive Line Coach Paul Dunn has been actively searching for quality offensive linemen. The Panthers depth along line is sparse and it appears four to five offensive linemen will be added. Will a lineman from Pottsville, PA be one of them?

"I'm looking at Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse, Connecticut and Rutgers," stated versatile offensive lineman Gary Bardzak (6-foot-4 inches, 290 pounds) from Pottsville High School in Pottsville, PA. "Coach (Greg) Gattuso and Coach (Dave) Wannstedt were at my high school a few weeks ago. They came to my high school to talk to my coach Kevin Keating. My coach told me they like me and my teammate Brad Hallick."

"I believe that Coach Gattuso will be coming back to my high school soon. Hopefully he has a scholarship offer."

The PantherDigest.com recently spoke with Pottsville High School Head Football Coach Kevin Keating. He had many positive things to say about his star lineman. "I have been coaching for 18 years and I don't think I have ever had a lineman as athletic as Gary Bardzak. It's rare to see someone that size that moves that well. He's capable of playing center, guard and tackle", he said.

Bardzak is capable of bench pressing 320 pounds, squatting 490 pounds and running the forty-yard dash in 5.1 seconds. He is capable of playing guard or tackle in college."

"I'm open right now but very interested in Pitt. I would like to learn more about their football program. It looks like I'll be attending Pitt's summer camp. I should be there for at least a day. They told me it would give their offensive line coach a chance to see me workout."

Connecticut was the first school to offer Gary a scholarship. He stated that Pitt, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Rutgers and all of the MAC schools have been in very close contact.

"I want to go to a school that makes me feel comfortable. I have to spend four to five years there. I want to feel like I'm at home. I'm going to major in engineering as well. They have to have a good engineering program."

"I might make a decision before the season. I'll wait until after the summer and possibly see what offers I have in my hand. I'm very interested in the Panthers."
