NJ standout Safety holds PITT offer

The University of Pittsburg is in the process of amassing another top recruiting class. It appears Head Coach Dave Wannstedt has targeted a talented and hard hitting safety from New Jersey. Read on for details.

"I have offers from Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Cincinnati and Temple right now," stated standout safety prospect Evan Rodriguez (6-foot-3 inches, 220 pounds) from North Bergen High School in North Bergen, NJ. "I still have a lot of schools looking at me. Boston College, Florida State, Penn State, Maryland and Bowling Green are some of them."

Rodriguez registered over 70 tackles and 5 interceptions as a junior. He garnered All-State honors.

"I'm pretty open right now. Distance isn't a big factor for me so every school is in the picture. I don't know much about the Panthers and I would like to visit. I'm not sure when I can do that."

Evan is capable of running a 4.6 forty-yard dash and bench pressing 275 pounds. When asked about his strengths, he stated, "I'm tough against the run and I'm strong with pass protection. I make it tough for quarterbacks to throw my way. I'm an aggressive player so run support comes easy to me."

"Education is important to me. I know that I can't count on football to get me through life. My goal is to major in sports management. Playing time is important to me as well."

"I know the Panthers are a solid program with good tradition. The Panthers, like a few others, have told me they would give me looks at outside linebacker as well. I would consider that move. Hopefully I can visit there in the future."
