  • Obviously, judging by his offer Quakertown's Caleb Ruch caught the attention of the Pitt staff on Monday. Ruch is hitting the camp circuit hard over the next week or so, it will be interesting. I believe WVU has a solid lead as the way things stand right now.
  • When I first entered the indoor facility on Monday a player immediately caught my eye, so after further investigating I found out it was Michigan tight end Cameron Joplin. You talk about a kid that passes the looks test. he looked to be about 6-4/245 and chiseled. Joplin told me the staff is going to evaluate his film and let him know. he seemed to genuinely enjoy the trip.
  • Bo Williams who was recently offered by Florida state among others. Williams currently claims around 50 offers and likes the Panthers. Williams spent part of his day talking to a number of Pitt players from Florida. I watched Williams and he is the real deal.
  • Darian Williams who is teammates with Bo was also very impressive all day. He has around 20 offers including one from Pitt. A third teammate LB Josh Hartigan claims a number of offers, but not one from the Panthers just yet.
  • Hempfield's Greg Meisner seemed to have the eye of most of the Pitt staff. he has a great motor and gets after it off that edge, but his limited size might hinder an offer as Pitt has a bevy of similar type players. I would not be shocked to see them offer, nor would I be shocked if they didn't because of numbers.
  • Another Hempfield product who looked pretty solid for the most part was Weston Banks. he is the type of kid who with a big senior season could land a few offers.
  • I know see who has been leading the way for Jordan Mabin. Nordonia was represented again by another lineman Kevin Kowalski. Kowalski looks to be about 6-3/275 but solid. Fundamentally he is one of the most impressive kids I saw in the four days. He is very competitive always taking reps.
  • A familiar name to Pitt fans Troutman, but this wasn't Chevy it was his little brother Antonio Troutman who was working out at linebacker.
  • Class of 2009 athlete Damien Thigpen told us he was timed at 4.38 and posted a 9-5 broad jump. he will be one to watch over the next two years.
  • Chris Drager, Gan Gergerich, Dom DeCicco and Lucas Nix stopped by to watch camp. Drager will be working out on Tuesday.
  • Rod Rutherford told us he is going to do what he has to do to make the Steelers roster. He is planning on playing special teams and could even try a Randle-El type of role. Rod has slimmed down and looks very good.
  • Northeast Catholic defensive back Daryl Robinson missed camp due to graduation. Pennsbury's C.J. Marck missed due to an injury.
  • Former NFL coaching guru Frank Ganz was at UPMC on Monday watching a grandson.
  • Some names who have been rumored to be at the final sessions of camp Tuesday are Greg Gaskins, Mike Ryan and Chris Drager.
