Darel Strong set to attend Pitt

University of Pittsburgh tight end Darrell Strong is currently preparing for a successful season with the Panthers. With two years of eligibility, he will have one year to play with his brother, Darel. The PantherDigest.com recently spoke with Darel and he assured our site the "Pitt is it".

"I keep in touch with Coach (Charlie) Partridge. The way it looks right now, I'll finish up and join the Panthers in January of 2007," stated Darel Strong (6-foot-4 inches, 250 pounds) from Reedley Community College in Reedley, CA. "I can't wait to get to Pittsburgh. I would have one year to play with my brother."

Strong is currently attending Reedley Community College in Reedley, CA. A well-muscled 6-foot-4 inches, 250 pounds, he is capable of running a 4.75 forty-yard dash. Darel can bench 355 pounds and squat 475 pounds.

"I went to Fort Scott Junior College (KS) after my senior year. I hurt my knee but it turned out to be not as serious as everyone first thought. There was no ligament damage," he said. "They wanted me to take a red shirt so I transferred to Reedly."

Strong believes he can play an integral role on the Panthers defensive line. "I have seen their defensive ends. They are good but on the small side," he said. "I bring a solid combination of size and speed. I have always been considered a speed rusher but I'm getting better at bull rushing. I'm strong enough to take on offensive tackles."

Strong finished his senior season at Plantation High School (Plantation, FL) with 60 tackles and 10 sacks.

"I have had Nebraska and Georgia come after me but I have told them and my coach has told them I'm heading to Pittsburgh. I want to get to Pittsburgh and make an impact."
