Florida athlete to visit Pitt

The state of Florida is widely known as a hotbed of football talent. University of Pittsburgh Head Football Coach Dave Wannstedt and staff have put a heavy recruiting focus on the state. The Panthers will be hosting one of South Florida's top athletes.

"I have offers from Pittsburgh, Auburn, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Miami (FL), Illinois and Memphis," stated athlete A.J. Guyton (6-foot, 185 pounds) from Homestead Senior High School in Homestead, FL. "People think I'm automatically going to go to Miami (FL) because I'm from Florida. I'm wide open right now and I want to go to the school that best fits me."

"I still have my senior season to go, but I plan on five official visits. Pittsburgh is the only one I know will get an automatic visit. They still stand out to me because they were the first to offer me a scholarship. I like Coach (Aubrey) Hill a lot too."

Panthers' wide receivers coach Aubrey Hills is primarily recruiting Guyton. He has a phenomenal season as a junior. In six games, he passed for 849 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. A.J. rushed for over 200 yards and averaged over 8 yards per carry.

"Schools are torn as to whether I'll play defense or offense. Most see me as a wide receiver and someone that can return kickoffs and punts. Other schools like me as a cornerback. Ohio State has been in close contact lately and they think my future is at cornerback. The Panthers like me on offense."

Ajami "A.J." is capable of running a 4.5 forty-yard dash and bench pressing 240 pounds. Pitt is currently recruiting his teammates Maurice Harris, Joe Nicholas, Jameil Farrington and Alphonso Bryant.

"I'm looking for a school with a good coaching staff that will be straight with me. I want an honest staff that will show me what kind of opportunity I would have at that school. Playing time is key as well. I'll study their depth charts and see how soon I can get onto the field."

When A.J. was asked if he would consider attending Pitt with a number of his teammates, he stated, "We have talked about it before. All of us have offers from Pitt. It's hard to say if all five of us would come but maybe two or three. It could happen. We're all very close, like an extended family."

"Right now it looks like Pittsburgh, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech will get my official visits. I can't wait to visit them all."
