Pitt amongst leader for Hubbard

The University of Pittsburgh ventured to St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH to land standout class of 2006 offensive lineman Joe Thomas. It didn't take Head Coach Dave Wannstedt and his coaching staff long to venture back for more talent. The Panthers are heavily pursing big wide receiver prospect Kyle Hubbard. It appears that Pitt is amongst his leaders.

"I have three written offers right now from Pittsburgh, Kentucky and Akron," stated wide receiver Kyle Hubbard (6-foot-4 ½ inches, 220 pounds) from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH. "Pittsburgh, Michigan, Miami (FL), Ohio State and Kentucky are probably my top schools. I'm hoping to visit some of them. I know I'll be visiting Pittsburgh for sure. They are high on my list."

Hubbard caught 40 receptions for over 500 yards as a junior. He was named All-District, All-Conference and second team All-County. Kyle is a solid student with a 2.8 grade point average.

"Joe Thomas and I instant message each other all the time. He really likes it at Pittsburgh. I'm trying to set something up with him right now. I want to go down there and hang out with him and check out the facilities. Pittsburgh brought in a great group of recruits and they're pretty close to home."

Thomas currently runs the forty-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. He's been working diligently to improve his time. "I have been working on my speed. My goal is to run a consistent 4.5 forty-yard dash," he said. "I know a lot of schools see me growing into a tight end, but I want them to see that I'm athletic enough and fast enough to play slot back."

"People list me at 6-foot-3 inches tall. I'm actually almost 6-foot-5 inches tall. I have the frame to add a lot of good weight. I'm open to playing wide receiver or tight end. I just want to help the team I go to. I'm looking for a school with solid academics and one that makes me feel comfortable. I want to want to meet the team and coaches and see if I feel like they are family. That's important to me."

"I cause a lot of headaches for defensive backs. I'm big and I'm elusive. I like to think I'm very good at catching the ball as well."

"I wasn't able to visit any schools this summer. Right now I'm planning on making a decision by mid-season. I want to make a few visits. Pittsburgh will be one of them."
