University of Pittsburgh Head Basketball Coach Jamie Dixon has been actively pursing a number of quality 2007 big men. It appears he may replace massive Aaron Gray with another massive Aaron. His name is Aaron Pogue from Dunbar High School in Dayton, OH. The 6-foot-9 inch, 290 pound giant is set to visit the Panthers on September 2nd. "My schools right now are USC, Florida, Pittsburgh, Illinois and Ohio State," stated Pogue.
Scout.com ranks Pogue a three-star prospect. Pogue, along with his blue-chip teammate Daequan Cook, led Dunbar High School to the Division 2 State Championship as a junior. He scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the championship game.
"Coach O (Orlando Antigua) has been recruiting me for Pittsburgh. I'm excited to get there and visit the school. I realize they lose a lot after this season and there's playing time to be had."
Although most scouts project Aaron as a "5" (center) on the next level, he was quick to dispel projections. "I believe I'm going play the "4" (power forward) spot in college. I'm athletic for my size and I can handle the position. My size causes all sorts of match up problems."
Pogue's close friend O.J. Mayo is generally considered one of the best, if not the best, high school basketball players in the nation. He has already committed to the USC Trojans. Pogue recently indicated that he would join Mayo at USC despite the strong possibility O.J. will jump to the NBA.
"I consider myself open," said Pogue. "Pittsburgh is not that far from home and they play in a great conference. I want to give them a strong look. I don't want to commit to a school until I have seen my options."
Aaron averaged 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds per game as a junior.
When asked about his strengths, he stated, "Obviously my size causes math up problems. When I get the ball in the paint, I'm nearly unstoppable. I have strong post moves and I'm unselfish. I like to think of myself as a team player."
