Florida LB places Pitt in top three

University of Pittsburgh wide receivers coach Aubrey Hill has been diligently recruiting a number of quality prospects from the state of Florida. One of the top players he has been pursing happens to be a hard hitting linebacker from Miami, FL. Will "Pitt be it" for this blue-chip prospect? Read on.

"I now have offers from Pittsburgh Auburn, Ohio University, South Carolina, South Florida, North Carolina State and Memphis," stated hard-hitting linebacker Ronnie Thornton (6-foot- 2 ½ inches, 215 pounds) from Killian High School in Miami, FL.

"I have three clear favorites: Pittsburgh, Auburn and North Carolina State. I plan on visiting all three schools."

Thornton registered 89 tackles and 5 sacks as a junior. He was Miami Killian High Schools starting middle linebacker for the last two seasons.

"Coach (Aubrey) Hill has been recruiting me for Pittsburgh. I think he's a great guy. When he's allowed, I hear from him. He keeps in regular contact."

"The most important thing for me is playing time. I feel like I can make an impact in college. Coach Hill told me that the Panthers lose three to four linebackers after this season and I could push for playing time."

Killian High School defeated Miami High School 25-0 last week. "I had a strong game," stated Thornton. "I had 10 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. I'm starting at middle linebacker."

Thornton is capable of running the forty-yard dash in 4.7 seconds. He can bench press 325 pounds and squat 405 pounds.

"My coach has me playing a little offense this year as well. I'm playing ‘power-back' on 3rd down and short yard situations."

"I definitely want to visit Pittsburgh and learn more about their program. I'm not worried about leaving the state of Florida. My teammate Alphonso Bruton (safety), may visit with me."
