Panthers offer Pennridge HS standout

University of Pittsburgh Head Football Coach Dave Wannstedt is perpetually looking to augment his team speed. Pitt's coaching staff decided to offer a scholarship to a speedy linebacker prospect from Perkasle, PA last week. Will "Pitt be it"for this prospect? Read on for details.

"Coach (Paul) Dunn has been recruiting for a while. The offer from the Panthers came though last week. I was pretty excited," stated outside linebacker prospect Tristan Roberts (6-foot, 215 pounds) from Pennridge High School in Perkasle, PA.

Roberts has been a three-year starter for Pennridge High School. He's currently starting at running back and linebacker. Pitt has told him he projects as a "WILL" linebacker on the next level.

"I attended Pitt's junior day and went to a day of Pitt's summer camp. They had a lot of elite players there and I thought I did very well," said Roberts. "Before I left camp, they had me spend time with their linebackers coach (Curtis Bray). He got to see what I can do."

Roberts is capable of running the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, bench pressing 310 pounds and squatting 455 pounds. He currently holds an offer from Bowling Green and he expects several others schools to offer soon.

Tristan was asked about his strengths from the linebacker position and he stated, "I'm as fast as most defensive backs and I have good instincts. I can make the quick read and react to the person with the ball. I like to think I'm a very physical player as well."

"Pitt has a great program and they're doing very well right now. It's an established program with top notch facilities. I definitely want to take an official visit. It's probably going to happen after my season."

Roberts is an exceptionally intelligent young man. He scored a 1980 on his SAT and carries a 4.31 grade point average.

"I'm going to be looking for playing time and comfort level. I know the Panthers have several linebackers graduating."
