Deas talks about the Panthers

The University of Pittsburgh is currently attempting to improve depth and talent on both sides of the line. It appears the Panthers coaching staff is taking a long and hard look at several prospects from Milford Academy in New Berlin, NY. None are larger than massive defensive tackle Charles Deas.

A year ago, massive Charles Deas (6-foot-4 inches, 335 pounds) from Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, FL was considered one of the best defensive tackles in the nation. Scout.com ranked him the 23rd best defensive tackle in the nation and a "four-star" prospect. After entertaining a plethora of upper echelon scholarship offers, he finally decided to commit to LSU. All seemed well until Deas fell short academically and was unable to qualify. He eventually chose to attend Milford Academy in New Berlin, NY to improve on and off the football field.

Milford Academy ventured to Pittsburgh this week to play the Robert Morris JV team on Monday at Joe Walton Stadium. They were able to practice at the UPMC Sports Performance Complex on the South Side last Sunday. Deas was able to get his "first taste" of the University of Pittsburgh.

"I'm happy at Milford. I had contacted Coach (Bill) Chaplik to see if they had room on their roster," said Deas. "I was really happy they were able to get me on their roster."

Deas registered 68 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior. He sat out his senior season in order to improve his academics.

"Right now I'm looking at Nebraska and Florida but Pitt has come into the picture. I really like what I saw and heard on Sunday. Their facilities are top notch and I really like Coach (Dave) Wannstedt."

The University of Pittsburgh recently received a verbal commitment from Milford Academy wide receiver Aundre Wright. Wright, originally from Perry Traditional Academy in Pittsburgh, PA, caught two passes for 130 yards and scored 2 touchdowns on Monday.

"I have been talking with Ishmyl (Johnson) and Devin (Parrish). We would love to play together in college. We have grown pretty tight. All of us liked what we saw at Pittsburgh. We wouldn't mind visiting together."

Ishmyl Johnson, known as "Ish", is a towering 6-foot-6 inch, 250 pound defensive end that currently is committed to Michigan State. His commitment has generally been considered a "soft" commitment. Johnson was originally a two-sport star at Rahway High School in Rahway, NJ. He was generally considered more of a basketball prospect prior to matriculating at Milford Academy.

Devin Parrish is a 6-foot, 180 pound "shut down" cornerback that originally played for the Parkway Academy in Miami, FL. He has already accumulated a number of scholarship offers from Big 10 schools.

"I want a chance to play early. I'm big and strong and I can shut down the run. I'm wide open right now, but you could put Pitt on my list of top four or five schools."
