Mackey talks about Pitt Offer

Leon Mackey should be one of the top prospects in the state of Delaware for the Class of 2008 and the 6-foot-5, 260-pound offensive tackle receiving his first scholarship offer this week from Pittsburgh.

"I got a letter from Pittsburgh letting me know I have an offer from them last week," Mackey said. "Their offensive line coach said I have what they look for at the position and that while I may end up at another position eventually, they were offering me at offensive tackle."

Mackey attends Christiana High in Newark, Del. and is the anchor of an offensive line that has helped junior running back Dallas Brown to 1863 yards rushing with one game left in the season.

"I like a few things about Pittsburgh," Mackey explained. "A lot of NFL scouts come through there to look at players and their head coach used to be in the NFL from what I heard. Being a player in a professional offense would really excite me. Also, when I talked to one of the coaches after a camp this summer he was real cool."

Mackey is hearing from dozens of schools currently and is starting to look at schools to visit after his season. "I'm going to talk to Pittsburgh very soon and try to set something up before the season is done to go see them."
