Jabaal Sheard comments on visit to Pitt

The University of Pittsburgh is set to host a number of quality prospects in December. One of the most talented defensive ends from the state of Florida visited the Panthers over the weekend. The PantherDigest.com spoke with Jabaal Sheard about his experience.

"I thought the visit was great," stated athletic defensive end Jabaal Sheard (6-foot-4 inches, 240 pounds) from Hollywood Hills High School in Hollywood, FL

"My host for the weekend was Jared Martin. I was shocked by the school and the City of Pittsburgh. It's a really nice, metro area with a lot of things to do. It's not stuck in the country somewhere."

"I arrived on Friday and they took us to Dave and Busters. That was fun. The next day we got tour all of the facilities. Everything just had a brand new vibe to it. The facilities they share with the Steelers are really nice and I thought that Heinz Field would be a great place to play football."

Scout.com ranks Sheard a "three-star" prospect and the 35th best defensive end in the nation. He registered 28 tackles and 8 sacks a junior.

"Although I was with Jared Martin the whole time I got to meet a bunch of the team. I felt comfortable with them. They have a lot of players from Florida on their roster. I spoke to Joe Thomas for a while. He's a really cool dude."

Jabaal is capable of bench pressing 370 pounds and running the forty-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. He has been a two-year starter for Hollywood Hills High School. Panthers Assistant Charlie Partridge has been his primary contact. Sheard has received scholarship offers from Pitt, Rutgers, South Carolina, Alabama and Minnesota.

When asked his thoughts on Coach (Dave) Wannstedt, he quickly stated, "He's a really cool guy. He seemed straight forward and down to earth. I could see myself playing for him."

Sheard has registered 45 tackles and 12 sacks this season.

"I'm not totally ready to commit at this point. I still have a few schools I might visit including Rutgers, Auburn and South Carolina. The Panthers are definably at the top my list and this visit really helped them."

"I loved everything I saw and thought they did a good job putting the visit together."
