Roberts has been a three-year starter for Pennridge High School. He was his teams starting running back and outside linebacker. Tristan rushed for over 1,400 yards this season. When asked about his defensive statistics, he stated, "I'm not quite sure. I didn't have that many tackles because teams always ran away from me." The Panthers project Roberts as a "WILL" linebacker on the next level.
"I'm set to visit Pitt this weekend. At this time, Pitt's my only scheduled visit."
The Panthers have already received a verbal commitment from rugged middle linebacker prospect "Mad" Max Gruder (6-foot-2 inches, 225 pounds) from Charlotte Country Day High School in Charlotte, NC. Pitt hopes to receive commitments from outside linebacker prospects Roberts and Brandon Lindsey (6-foot-2 inches, 220 pounds) from Aliquippa High School in Aliquippa, PA this weekend. Gruder is set to visit the Panthers on January 12th.
When asked about his strengths from the linebacker position, Tristan stated, "I'm very good at picking up what offenses are attempting to do and getting to the play. My speed is an asset as well. I have been told I'm strong in pass coverage. When I visited Pitt, they told me they would use a linebacker with my speed."
"I had dropped to about 200 pounds during the season because I got really sick. I can get back to 215 pound quickly. My ideal playing weight in college will be between 215 to 220 pounds."
Roberts is capable of running the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, bench pressing 310 pounds and squatting 455 pounds. He currently holds an offer from Bowling Green and Army. Tristan is an exceptionally intelligent young man. He scored a 1980 on his SAT and carries a 4.31 grade point average.
Tristan opened the eyes of the Panthers coaching staff over the summer when he ran a consistent 4.5 forty-yard dash at nearly 220 pounds. The Panthers' indoor facilities are considered a "slow track" and the coaching staff believes he can develop into an aggressive outside linebacker capable of running a 4.4 forty-yard dash.
Panthers' Offensive Line Coach Paul Dunn has been primarily recruiting Roberts. Tristan indicated that he's heavily leaning towards Pitt at this time. He was asked if would commit during his visit and he stated, "If I like everything I see and feel it's time to end the process, I could commit during the visit. There's a high probably that could happen."
