Panthers Land their own Williams

The Pittsburgh Panthers lost out on a Florida running back named Williams this week, but today they gained another running back from Florida named Williams. Greg Williams is not only a running back, but he is the versatile type of athlete that Dave Wannstedt is trying to build his program around.

Pittsburgh Panther fans will be watching the careers of Bo Williams and Greg Williams very closely. Bo nixed the Panthers this week for Gainesville and the Florida Gators. Today, Greg Williams committed to the Panthers.

Some thought that the Naples, Florida athlete had been waiting to see what Bo Williams did before he pulled the trigger. According to the soft-spoken Barron Collier running back that wasn't the case at all.

"No sir,I don't even know who Bo Williams is," Greg Williams explained. "I had my own time frame for a decision."

Williams may have caught Dave Wannstedt off guard.

"I called him today and were just talking about some things and I just kind of threw it out there that I wanted to come to Pitt. He was ecstatic, I think I surprised him."

It was Wannstedts desire for a power running game that helped attract the talented three-star prospect to Pittsburgh.

"I am a powerful and fast, downhill type of runner and I know that is what they want there."

The 6-2, 205-pound Williams can also play a number of other positions. As a senior he ran for 1.481 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was named All-Conference and honorable mention All-State.
