Maurice Williams commits to Pitt

University of Pittsburgh Head Football Coach Dave Wannstedt has once again proven that he is one of the top recruiters in the nation. Athlete Maurice Williams from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, PA committed to the Panthers Thursday morning. Williams is considered amongst the top athletes in the state of Pennsylvania.

The University of Pittsburgh football recruiting class of 2007 received a massive boost on Thursday morning when blue-chip athlete Maurice Williams (6-foot-1 inches, 190 pounds) from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, PA verbally committed to the Panthers. ranks Williams the 28th best wide receiver in the nation and a "four-star" recruit. Superprep Magazine and's Allen Wallace referred to Williams as the "next Steve Breaston". Maurice, like Breaston, played quarterback in high school but colleges prefer him as wide receiver. He chose the Panthers over scholarship offers from WVU, Penn State, Syracuse, Iowa and Maryland.

Williams was the 19th player to join the Panther Class of 2007. He completed 44 of 92 passes for 1,193 yards and scored 11 touchdowns as a junior. He rushed for 442 yards and scored 9 touchdowns on 83 carries.

The will be speaking with Williams about his commitment tonight. Maurice, known as "Mo", is expected to initially play wide receiver.
