Murdock to decide this week

The University of Pittsburgh hosted a number of quality recruits last weekend. One of the top prospects happened to be blue-chip cornerback Sherod Murdock from Middleton High School in Tampa, FL. The PantherDigest.com spoke with Murdock and he appears close to a decision.

"I was supposed to visit Alabama this weekend. I couldn't make it due to a few things that came up," stated talented cornerback Sherod Murdock from Middleton High School in Tampa, FL. "I don't plan on rescheduling a visit to Alabama. I'm going to decide this week."

Murdock verbally committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide in June and believed that the recruiting process was over. When Alabama opted to fire Head Coach Mike Shula after leading the Tide to a mediocre 6-6 record, he decided to re-open the recruiting process. Sherod visited the Kansas Jayhawks on January 6th and the University of Pittsburgh on January 13th.

"Right now it looks like I'm going to decide by Wednesday," Murdock said. "My final decision will come down to Pitt and Alabama. I have two great schools to choose from."

Scout.com ranks Murdock, the younger brother of South Carolina's O.J. Murdock, the 77th best cornerback in the nation and a "three-star" prospect. Sherod is capable of running a 4.5 forty-yard dash. Only one cornerback, Buddy Jackson (6-foot-1 inches, 160 pounds) from Cypress Bay High School in Weston, FL has been added to the Panthers class of 2007.

The University of Pittsburgh recently announced the hiring of former Alabama defensive backfield coach Chris Ball. Ball and Murdock have a long standing relationship that has lasted nearly three years. The Panthers are hoping that relationship will lead Sherod north to Pittsburgh.

"I'm going to sit down with my parents and coaches and make the best decision for me," said Murdock. "I want to end the recruiting process soon."
