Jones Picks Pitt

Pittsburgh has become a force in the Johnstown Region of Pennsylvania. Today, the Panthers added yet another player from the "Flood City".

Bishop McCort defensive tackle Wayne Jones, 6-foot-4, 320-pounds, has decided to accept the Pittsburgh Panthers offer to greyshirt and join the class of 2008.

Scout.com spoke to Jones brother Avery Hawkins this morning and he informed us of his siblings decision.

"He is going to Pitt," Hawkins said. "He thinks the greyshirt is his best option to prepare him for college. he wants to be able to get his weight down to about 300 pounds.'

"He has seen what a greyshirt has done for Jose Cruz at Akron. It has allowed him to get a lot bigger physically. He is playing basketball right now trying to lose more weight.

Hawkins explained to us just how his younger brother's greyshirt would go.

"He would enroll in the fall as a regular student. He won't practice or anything like that until January of 2008. He likes the idea of playing with Antwuan Reed, Larod (Stephens-Howling) and his teammate Mike Cruz may also commit to Pitt."

If the Panthers don't land Jabaal Sheard a talented defensive end from Florida, there is still a chance that Jones could end up sliding into the class of 2007.
